Candidate Instructions

Congratulations Candidate!

Commencement is a special time to celebrate your academic achievements. To ensure an amazing experience, please review the following carefully.

Checking In at Commencement

Arrive

Arrive one hour prior to the start of your ceremony; your cap and gown must be carried and not worn until you enter the University Events Center.

After Arriving

Check in.

Receive

Receive your reader card, academic honor cords (if applicable), diploma cover, commencement program, and proceed to be seated.

Keep In Mind

Please always keep your reader card in hand during the ceremony

Bring Your ID

Graduates do not need a ticket, but need to present an acceptable form of ID

 

Including: 

• TXST student ID

• Driver’s license

• Government-issued ID

Ceremony Procedures

Processional

Graduates will be seated by level (doctoral, master's, or bachelor's), not by college, alphabet, or honors designation.

Diploma Presentations

After degrees are conferred, graduates will have their name called, shake hands with President Damphousse, and have a photo taken. Diplomas will be mailed later

Recessional

After the Alma Mater, graduates will exit the arena to Sewell Park. Plan to meet family and friends outside the University Events Center near Sewell Park.

What to Bring

Please review the list of allowed and prohibited items.

Reader Cards

At check-in, you'll get a reader card with your name. Keep it with you during the ceremony and hand it to the Commencement Reader when approaching the stage.

Cap and Gown

Graduates must wear Texas State regalia from the bookstore or Herff Jones. There's no dress code, but dress for photos. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
